so this is what Andy Warhol famous for: putting people (or his superstars) in front of his film camera in the Factory and let them be themselves for as long as he wanted.
This time we have 13 of those screen tests shot in the middle of the chaotic glamourous ’60s, featuring the legendary superstar Edie Sedgwick, the cool Nico, Lou Reed from the Velvet Underground, the very talented but die young dancer Freddy Herko and more.

Two people kissing
“Two people kissing,” I said, “always look like they’re fish. Two people kissing, what does it mean, anyway?”
Damien said, “it means you trust the other person enough to let them touch you.”
“No it doesn’t. People kiss people they don’t trust all the time. Especially in Europe and at parties. Think of all the people we know who’ll kiss anybody. Does that mean they’re ‘trusting’?”
“I think it does, yes.” B said. This B is was stubborn. “They trust a lot of people, is all.”

After. Or before. But never during.
If something’s going to happen for you, it will, you can’t make it happen. And it never does happen until you’re past the point where you care whether it happens or not. An actress friend told me that after she didn’t want money any more and after she didn’t want jewels any more, that’s when she got money and jewels. I guess it’s for our own good that it always happens that way, because after you stop wanting things is when having them won’t make you go crazy. After you stop wanting them is when you can handle having them. Or before. But never during. If you get things when you really want them, you go crazy. Everything becomes distorted when something you really want is sitting in your lap.

the car ride
Sometimes you’re invited to a big ball and for months you think about how glamorous and exciting it’s going to be. Then you fly to Europe and you go to the ball and when you think back on it a couple of months later what you remember is maybe the car ride to the ball, you can’t remember the ball at all. Sometimes the little times you don’t think are anything while they’re happening turn out to be what marks a whole period of your life. I should have been dreaming for months about the car ride to the ball and getting dressed for the car ride, and buying my ticket to Europe so I could take the car ride. Then, who knows, maybe I could have remembered the ball.

Never

Romance
People’s fantasies are what give them problems. If you didn’t have fantasies you wouldn’t have problems because you’d just take whatever was there. But then you wouldn’t have romance, because romance is finding your fantasy in people who don’t have it. A friend of mine always says, “Women love me for the man I’m not.”
